I am in love with this song…. every time I hear it, i become so emotional and blissful at the same time….. The lyrics are so beautifully written…it is the ultimate combination of melodious music and meaningful-beautiful lyrics…. sweeps me away every time…. I am not trying to compete the ‘Musical Musings’ part of this web page in anyway
….. but couldn’t help writing about it….. I dug the lyrics for the song out and am ready to write a English translation (of meaning) so non-Tamilians can enjoy the song equally when they hear it …

Excellent work! I am North Indian, and do not understand Tamil at all. However, I recently saw A.R. Rahman live in Concert in Canada last year, and his Tamil Songs are just as great as his Hindi songs!
ReplyDeleteI believe I heard ‘New York’ at the concert and wanted to know what it means, which now I know, thanks to your nice English Translation! The lyrics are amazingly intricate and philisophical, not to mention, the music and singing by A.R. Rahman is also amazing!
So thank you for the English Translation once again, hope more popular Tamil songs can be done by you, for example songs from New and Sivaji-The Boss.
Take care of yourself and all the best to you!

Thank you a lot!! I'm a non tamil person but I'm a big fan of Surya. He's the best. I watch only his movies and I'm thrilled that he has signed for a hindi movie.
ReplyDeleteHe's the best, simply the best. I loved him in Ghajini, its much better than Hindi Ghajini.
Agree with you. Love watching Surya's movies..
